The Liberty Presents:
PYXIS QUARTET
June 21st, 7:30pm, $35

New name, familiar faces…

We may be new to our name, but we aren’t new to the business of moving our art form forward, having already performed and recorded for many years in the Portland area previously as the Third Angle String Quartet.

Performing Georg Friedrich Haas String Quartet No. 3 „In iij. Noct.“ (2001)
Complete darkness…an inky black canvas for a truly amazing musical performance. The 3rd String Quartet by Georg Friedrich Haas has quickly taken its place as a modern masterpiece, a tour de force of spectral music that is performed in absolute darkness. Darkness, however, is not present in this piece merely as an absence of light, but becomes the key theme of the work, with the musicians neither seeing their music nor their fellow performers, and seated as far apart from one another as possible. The work is subtitled In iij. Noct., a reference to the Roman Catholic Tenebrae service for Holy Week.  Don't miss this bold event in the Liberty Theatre!  Please note: the hall will be completely dark for this performance.

For the past decade, Portland based Pyxis String Quartet has been pushing buttons, envelopes, and every other metaphor for limits, thrilling audiences with musical work that is fresh, timely, and relevant. Our home planet is the Oregon Symphony (we’re all members), and the Pyxis constellation is our compass as we chart a new course in contemporary string quartet music.
