On February 1st, we ring in our 17th annual Stout Month. Every year as February winds its cold, wet tendrils around the North Coast of Oregon, bringing with it the usual seasonal overcast skies, a decline in tourism and general habits of hibernation among the residents, we fight back with as many different Stouts as we can possibly brew. This year it’s 28 straight days of Stout Beer beginning on February 1st. We’ll have Stouts of every shape, size, flavor and ABV. See the list of stout releases here.

Stout Month festivities culminate on Saturday, February 14th, at the Festival of Dark Arts with more than 90 unique Stouts on tap. THE FESTIVAL IS SOLD OUT AND THE FORT GEORGE CAMPUS IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC ON THIS DATE.

At The Aftermath on Sunday, 2/15, we open back up for regular service at 11am and the release of 2026’s Matryoshka Variants, as well as the release of special barrel aged stout collaborations.

""Born to Be a Slough Pig with Capt. Thomas Thomayer"" - Retired Columbia River Pilot Captain Thomas N. Thomayer will enjoy sharing with you his memories of his grandfather, Captain Lewis S. Russell Sr., founder of Tidewater Barge Lines in 1932 and sharing a lifetime of working on the Columbia, Willamette, and Snake Rivers. Captain Thomayer walked aboard a Tidewater tug for the first time in 1970 and operated them for 17 years. He was voted in as a Columbia River Pilot in 1987 and enjoyed working with fellow pilots and masters from all over the world for 27 years. Come take a voyage without leaving the dock.

Event Details

Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center's Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts. Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. The carving group is a great way to maintain skills and develop new ones. Please note that Carving Club capacity is limited to 12 carvers max.

Ten Fifteen’s 2026 Season Kicks Off with a Constitutional Exploration

Ten Fifteen Productions’ 2026 Season, America the Beautiful?, will begin later this month with What the Constitution Means to Me. This exploration of the blueprint of our country will help to set the tone of national self examination over the course of the year. Sponsored in part by a grant from the Clatsop County Cultural Coalition, the production dates and venue have been changed from the original announcement due to repairs occurring at the organization’s home in the Odd Fellows Building.

About the Show:
Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.

"Plan your visit to the museum on a Friday and enjoy chatting with a Gallery Docent or engaging with the EDU Cart. - Gallery Docents specialize in a specific gallery, so ask at the front desk for their location and dive deep into the nitty gritty. This month we share our Shipwrecks Gallery Docent, Roger (who also likes Cedar and Sea)! - EDU Carts showcase touchable items related to the gallery they set up in. These are great for learners of all ages who want to get hands on with maritime history. One of these offerings are available in the museum on Fridays from 10:30 AM – 12 noon.

The Trail’s End Art Association Gallery will open a new show in February featuring paintings by Paul Krabbe. There will be a reception for the artists on February 7th, during the Gearhart Art Walk, 2-5 pm. This show will be open Fridays–Sundays, 11am–3 pm from February 7th to March 1st. Featured artist, Paul Krabbe, recently started painting landscapes and it has been a great adventure. Krabbe spent his whole life outdoors in the Southwest and Northwestern US, but when he started painting nature, he felt a completely different awareness and became fascinated by the relationship between what he sees and what he paints. The subject matter in this show has been drawn from his own photos and photos from friends. Most of the work is of local origin, but a segment is from family members’ travels to Scotland. All of the work is acrylic and mostly done on watercolor paper. Paul will be joined by three other TEAA artists: TJ Lev, Sherise Smith and Phyllis Taylor. All three will also be displaying works in acrylic. Trail’s End is the oldest non-profit art association of its kind on the coast. In addition to new gallery shows of original art that changes monthly, there is also an entry gallery featuring prints, greeting cards, jewelry, pottery, and more. ""Lost City, Living Memories: Vanport and its Legacy with Laura Lo Forti and LaVeta Gilmore Jones"" - The Vanport Mosaic is a platform for memory activism, committed to amplifying, honoring, and preserving the silenced histories of marginalized communities. Laura Lo Forti is the co-founder and director of Vanport Mosaic. Since 2014, she has led the organization’s oral history projects, curated exhibits, and public programming. Laura is a multimedia journalist, cultural organizer, and a “story midwife” supporting communities in defining how their stories should be told and shared. Her approach to community engagement and ethical storytelling has been featured at the Tribeca Film Festival, in “Collaborating for A Cause,” on Media that Matters, and at restorative narrative conferences. LaVeta Gilmore Jones, a proud Vanport descendant, is the daughter of former Vanport resident Beatrice Leola Cannon Gilmore and Rev. Rozell Gilmore, both now with the ancestors. LaVeta produces the annual Vanport Reunion and coordinates additional gatherings for Vanport residents and their descendants. She also serves as a public speaker with Vanport Mosaic, sharing stories that honor the community’s history and legacy and is a Vanport Mosaic Board member. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, LaVeta spent her career as a public school educator and later as an executive director and community organizer for a local nonprofit. She finds deep joy in celebrating life with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Traditional rug hooking has a rich history of using simple materials to create beautiful rugs and hangings. Apply this tradition to our maritime heritage twice a month in a casual, supportive setting. An initial introductory kit will be available for purchase $40 for incoming rug hookers looking to explore the craft. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials for other projects. In the era of wooden boats, "chafing mats" were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat "accessory" and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Register for CRMM's Maritime Weaving Club to try your hand at these historic patterns!

The Warrenton Community Library is hosting author James A. Tweedie at "Library After Dark" on Saturday, February 14 at 4 p.m. James A. Tweedie is a retired pastor, author, poet, photographer and composer who has lived and worked in California, Utah, Scotland, Australia, Hawaii, and presently in Long Beach, Washington.
As a "self-publisher" he has published over 35 titles with Dunecrest Press of which 15 are his own, including six novels, four collections of poetry, and one collection of short stories. His award-winning poetry and short stories have appeared nationally and internationally in both online and print anthologies. If someone would pay him, he would be a professional optimist, but, in lieu of a sponsor, he has been forced to maintain his status as an amateur.
Author’s Presentation: "Laughing Matters—Poetry, Prose & Serious Fun" With a focus on poetry and humor, Tweedie will be sharing the best and worst of his poetry along with some selections of prose and a little music to spice things up. ""Sustainable Practices with Walrus Boat Recycling"" - Join maritime preservationist and circular economy innovator Olive Theodore for an inspiring talk on her closed loop solution for recycling derelict boats and her national initiative advancing historic preservation and coastal resilience. Olive will share how Walrus Boat Recycling transforms abandoned vessels into renewed materials, community assets, and educational tools while protecting waterways from harmful marine debris. She will also introduce a bold multi state strategy to safeguard working waterfronts, restore historic vessels, and build a more resilient, climate ready maritime future. This talk invites museum visitors, partners, and coastal communities to imagine what becomes possible when we turn maritime waste into regeneration. Olive Theodore is a maritime preservationist, environmental innovator, and founder of Walrus Boat Recycling, a creative closed loop solution turning derelict vessels into usable materials, art, and community assets. Additionally she is leading a National Maritime Heritage and Coastal Resilience Initiative - a multi state effort to protect working waterfronts, restore historic vessels, and reduce marine debris through circular economy systems. Her work weaves heritage, ecology, and imagination to strengthen communities from coast to coast.

This month we share our Shipwrecks Gallery Docent, Roger (who also likes Cedar and Sea)! - EDU Carts showcase touchable items related to the gallery they set up in. Traditional rug hooking has a rich history of using simple materials to create beautiful rugs and hangings. Apply this tradition to our maritime heritage twice a month in a casual, supportive setting. An initial introductory kit will be available for purchase $40 for incoming rug hookers looking to explore the craft. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials for other projects. Please note that Rug Hooking Club capacity is limited to 12 people max.

Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center's Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts. Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. The carving group is a great way to maintain skills and develop new ones. Please note that Carving Club capacity is limited to 12 carvers max.

In the era of wooden boats, "chafing mats" were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat "accessory" and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Register for CRMM's Maritime Weaving Club to try your hand at these historic patterns!

Explore the underwater world of creatures off Oregon’s wild coastline creating beautiful archival prints with a variety of colors and specialty papers. (Salmon, Ling cod, Albacore, a variety of Rockfish, Skates, Shrimp and Squid, etc.) This workshop will be offering a slower, more advanced technique for students who want to dive into the nuance of naturalist artistic interpretation. We will also be making visual “stories” by using other elements from their natural habitats including beautiful seaweeds, shellfish and sea rocks. No previous art experience necessary. Come and surprise yourself by making stunning prints!
