Linda Brim, a local Master Gardener and the long-time previous owner of Brim’s Farm & Garden is teaching a class on choosing the right plant for the spot in your garden you wish to enhance.

Linda has many years of experience with plant placement, which includes soil, light, the right plant, and the right spot in the garden. She is working with other Master Gardeners to update the Demonstration Garden at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds.

The class is free, and everyone is invited to the Flavel House Museum in Astoria on Sunday, September 15th, at 1:00. We will be in the gardens below 714 Exchange Street.

September 19th TNT, “The Rise of the KKK in Clatsop County,” presented by CCHS Curator Dr. Chelsea Vaughn.

Dr. Vaughn kicks off our regular lecture series, TNT (Thursday Night Talks), with her presentation about the 1920s rise of the Ku Klux Klan and their insidious local presence.

The 22nd Annual Pacific Northwest Brew Cup is returning September 20-21st at Heritage Square (beside the Garden of Surging Waves) with live music, 30+ different varieties of beer, and food trucks available on-site. Entry for the event is free, and there are children’s activities all day. This community event has more than 90 volunteers and boasts of around 3,000 guests annually.

Ten Fifteen Productions kicks off the fall season with this suspenseful adaptation of Susan Hill’s popular gothic novel, The Woman in Black. Directed by Mick Alderman, this Victorian Era tale will get audiences in the perfect mood for Halloween. Jill Norris, Jayne Osborn, Conner Price, and Susi Brown round out the crew.

About the Show: The framework of this spine tingler is unusual: a lawyer hires an actor to tutor him in recounting to family and friends a story that has long troubled him concerning events that transpired when he attended the funeral of an elderly recluse. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, for she is a specter who haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was accidentally killed. Anyone who sees her dies! The lawyer has invited some friends to watch as he and the actor recreate the events of that dark and stormy night. A classic of the genre.

Imagine a musical journey that weaves through time and space, guided by the pictorial timeline adorning the Astoria Column’s exterior. Musical Stairs invites you to experience fifty minutes of enchanting melodies performed by a talented ensemble of musicians. From trumpets to flutes and an array of string instruments and soulful vocals, the sounds will resonate within the very heart of the Column itself. 

Chair Seating for 150 will be available. Those who prefer a cozy spot may bring blankets and settle on the grass.

A sound system on the grounds and a live radio broadcast will ensure that every note reaches your ears, whether near the Column or gazing from afar.
