A dazzling, romantic musical masterpiece, starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds dancing through chaos and romance. This monthly matinee series, held every first Tuesday, celebrates timeless Hollywood films. In partnership with Clatsop Care Center Health District and Clatsop Cares Foundation, the series provides a warm, accessible and nostalgic cinema experience for seniors and classic film enthusiasts alike. We know Baba Yaga isn't technically a Grimm tale — we just figure the Brothers Grimm forgot to write it down. Pretty lazy on their part, honestly. Someone had to fix their oversight, so here we are. Astoria Conservatory presents a spooky (but not too spooky) Russian fairy tale told from Baba Yaga's point of view this fall. Yes, she's a witch. Yes, she lives in a house with chicken legs. But mostly, she's just an exhausted homeowner fed up with nosy trespassers wandering onto her property uninvited. Come hear her side of the story — told through a mix of dance, musical theater, and drama that'll keep the whole family entertained, broomsticks and all. Family-friendly fun for all ages! For at least the past decade, HS music programs throughout the state have fallen victim to budget cuts, leaving few organized opportunities for youths to learn how to play a musical instrument let alone participate in an orchestra. In response to this lack of support for HS orchestra programs and the impending and looming additional budget reductions, the festival board provides a set of unique opportunities to help revitalize and sustain HS orchestras. Established in 2016, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The festival currently presents three major events each year: 1) a 4-day April festival for HS orchestras, 2) a Chamber Music Concert Series with HS students and professional musicians playing side-by-side, and 3) a Composers’ Symposium Series for HS students. The 2026-27 school year is our 10-year anniversary season and due to high demand, we plan to expand. Our expansion plan includes adding another 4-day festival (Astoria, November 2026) for the 10-year anniversary season – and beyond. The Board strategically identifies rural and high need schools to (a) ensure that orchestras from around the state participate and (b) ensure that students who may experience inequity based on family income have the opportunity to participate. We do not want any school to feel they cannot participate if they can't raise sufficient funds. The festival pays for all expenses (e.g., lodging, food, instructors). Schools only pay their bus transportation to and from the festival. Goals for the Clatsop county community are: • Provide opportunities for community members to engage with the artists and ensure greater access to quality music experiences. • Promote well-being, inspire learning, and strengthen the fabric of our coastal communities. • Unlock the transformative power of music to enhance the quality of life and livability in Clatsop county. • Complement & support the efforts of Clatsop county’s public & private music educators. • Provide two FREE classical music concerts for the Clatsop community. • Enhance Astoria’s prominence as an “arts hub” of the coast. During the 4-day festival three of the HS orchestras perform Friday evening in a FREE concert along with a performance by a university or guest orchestra. Saturday evening three of the six HS orchestras perform and the combined festival orchestra (all six HS orchestras) perform together in a FREE concert as the 4-day festival’s finale. The festival’s instructors are: Hector Aquero, Drake University, Dr. Dan Allcott, University of Tennessee and Adam Flatt, Colorado Ballet. The festival dates are: November 5-8, 2026.

This beginner block printing class introduces the core techniques of relief printmaking, from designing a simple image to carving it into a block and printing it by hand. We’ll go over how to transfer your design, safely use carving tools, and work with ink and paper to create clear, expressive prints. Along the way, you’ll get a sense of how line, texture, and contrast come into play in this tactile, hands-on process. The focus is on learning by doing, with plenty of time to experiment and troubleshoot as you go. You’ll come away with a small edition of prints, your carved block, and a foundational understanding of the tools and materials involved. This class is a practical, low-pressure entry point into a process that can be adapted for use at home with minimal equipment. The Trail’s End Art Association Gallery will open a new show in November featuring pastels and other art forms by artist Linda Wyss. There will be a reception for the artist on November 7th, during the Gearhart Art Walk from 2-5 pm. In conjunction with the show, there will be a Holiday Gift Faire from 11am – 5pm, featuring holiday gifts made by Trail’s End artists. The show will be open Fridays–Sundays, 11am–3 pm from Nov. 7th to Nov. 29th. Wyss’ artistic journey began with a raffle prize of a free beginner’s watercolor class in 2018. Soon after that, she became a member of Trails End Art Association where her art education continued through workshops and mentoring from fellow artists. Today, pastel is her primary medium. The vibrant colors of pastels work well to capture the natural beauty and wonder of our state for this native Oregonian. The amazing quality of light and the sky drama so unique to our coastal climate provide inspiration for much of Wyss’ art. Her artwork has also been shown in Cannon Beach Arts, Astoria, Seaside and Gearhart.

Join us for a special Oregon Coast reunion of Wags & Pags with visiting artist Jane Pagliarulo! Elise Wagner and Jane Pagliarulo taught together for eight years bringing Wax Collagraph Printmaking to Portland, Connecticut and Cape Cod. Learn to print by making marks and embossing textiles into wax using handmade Wagner Collagraph Wax at the Oregon Coast! Traditionally, in printmaking, a “collagraph” is a collaged printing plate. Wagner developed this unique approach to printmaking, replacing the collage on the plate with a specially formulated white encaustic wax. This class combines the techniques and approaches of both printmaking and encaustic painting to produce richly textured intaglio prints. Create plates from marks and textures applied with wax. In this class, we use both traditional plexiglas and flat Ampersand Claybord as the printing plate to learn the advantages of printing with each. A free afternoon of gloriously terrible writing at Ilwaco Cider Company's taproom. In the spirit of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, we're inviting the community to write the worst opening sentence to a novel never written. Local theater performers will read the finalists aloud, and a panel of local writers will pick the winners. Entries are due November 1.
