The Providence Hood and Portland To Coast Relay is the most popular and largest running and walking relay race in the world, annually drawing participants from over 40 countries and all 50 states. Known as the Mother of All Relays, the event takes 8 to 12 member relay teams 199 miles or 130 miles (from Portland) from the iconic top of Mount Hood to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The event has sold-out for 30 straight years and on lottery opening day for 23 consecutive years!

The final six legs of this relay event wind through rural Clatsop County and the finish line is in Seaside.
Astoria and Warrenton sees heavy impacts to crowds and traffic in our communities during this event weekend. So although the event isn't itself in our towns, we have listed this event to help set expectations for a busy weekend in our region.

A multi-instrumentalist, DIY-inclined producer who has issued the bulk of her solo work under the pseudonym Grouper, Harris secured more or less permanent critical-darling status with her 2008 breakthrough album, "Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill." Grouper’s music lends itself to precisely the kind of introverted presentation that Harris has been able to sustain since making her full-length CD-R debut in 2005. Though keyboards, piano, guitar and Harris’s own voice have always been central to her work, her trademark has been to engulf those sounds so the overall atmosphere — not so much the instrumentation — occupies the spotlight. On any given Grouper release, the clarity of the individual parts tends to get washed out in a thick blanket of whatever sonic element is most prominent in the mix, be it volume saturation, reverb, or other effects.

Step into the layered story of Astoria, where river, sea, and hillside converge, on a guided walking tour through the Downtown Astoria Historic District. Offered weekly by the Lower Columbia Preservation Society, these tours explore the architectural heritage, working waterfront history, and civic ambitions that shaped Oregon’s oldest American settlement.

Tours are point-to-point, beginning at the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park and concluding at the Flavel House Museum, traversing approximately ten blocks over the course of 90 minutes. Along the way, participants encounter landmark commercial buildings, vernacular streetscapes, and stories of industry, immigration, and resilience that continue to define Astoria’s character.

Walking tours are offered Sundays, from Mother’s Day through mid-October, and are led by knowledgeable LCPS volunteer guides with deep ties to local history and preservation advocacy. Each tour emphasizes both architectural observation and the broader cultural context of the place inviting participants to see familiar streets with fresh eyes. The tour will finish with enough time to enjoy lunch at the Sunday Market in downtown Astoria, or you'll be in time to join the Liberty Theater tour starting at noon.

Debra Heesch Presents Reggae Legend CLINTON FEARON Solo Acoustic on August 30th at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts in Astoria, Oregon. All Ages are Welcome. This will be Clinton's first time performing in Astoria! CLINTON FEARON is a composer, songwriter, singer, and player of instruments since his early teens, and a professional since the age of 19. He was born in Jamaica and became the bassist, vocalist, and lyricist for the mythic Gladiators, as well as a session musician for Coxsonne Dodd in Studio One and Lee 'Scratch' Perry's at Black Ark, two of the main producers on the island at this time. He also composed some everlasting bass lines for well-known artists like Yabby You, Jimmy Riley, Max Romeo, Junior Byles, and many others. After leaving Jamaica in 1987, Clinton Fearon started a new career in Seattle. With other musicians of the Gladiators, he decided to stay in the US and founded The Defenders. The band built a nice following in the Northwest. After five years, the band split, and Clinton Fearon formed the Boogie Brown Band with local musicians in 1993. Clinton recorded eight albums with Boogie Brown Band and two albums in a solo acoustic. Each song of Clinton Fearon is a strong message coming from the heart of a man who dedicates his life to help a better world come. With chiselled music and poetic lyrics, he opens reggae to a wider audience who simply love his beautiful songs. "My music is roots reggae from the island of Jamaica. I grew up deep in the hills, up in St. Catherine, surrounded by nature, beauty, and hard work. Even as a child, I knew I wanted to be a musician and began my career singing in church and at school, and eventually built my own guitar! As a teenager, my journeys took me to Kingston, where I met many musicians and began writing and recording music. The Skatalites, Motown artists, and Jamaican musicians who came before me all influenced my music. I write from my heart. The world is full of inspirations... nature, people, politics, love. I write about them all. My music is good for the soul - always with a message of hope and betterment for tomorrow. It's good for dancing, good for listening, and I think it's good for all." - Clinton Fearon
