Inspiring brass quintet, from the Air Force Band of the Golden West. The ensemble comprises two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone, a tuba, and a percussionist. The mission of Golden West Brass is to harness musical excellence to HONOR our nation and those who have served, INSPIRE patriotism and resilience in our Airmen, Guardians and nations’ citizens, and CONNECT the Air Force with the American public.

An archive is composed of personal stories and everyday life. Queer stories are often excluded from the archives and have to be hunted for through clues and vague suggestions. Writing our stories is a powerful way to connect with the arts in this current climate. This hour-long workshop will include helpful approaches to crafting true stories from our life experiences, some read aloud, and an interactive discussion. This workshop is part of Clatsop County Arts Summit quarterly mini workshops of 2026. Traditional rug hooking has a rich history of using simple materials to create beautiful rugs and hangings. Apply this tradition to our maritime heritage twice a month in a casual, supportive setting. Please note that Rug Hooking Club capacity is limited to 12 people max.

The Last Refuge of Scoundrels is a free weekly discussion group where Astoria residents gather to think through big questions together — about identity, technology, meaning, work, and whatever else deserves more than a quick answer. A philosopher guides the conversation, but there's no lecture and no homework. Just 90 minutes of genuine inquiry with neighbors who like to think out loud. It's been running for over a decade, and new faces are always welcome.

Philosofarian's Seth Tichenor returns to Fort George for the next Wit & Wisdom talk to ask: Is nonviolence the most evolved response to injustice, or is that just a story we tell ourselves? How is it different from pacifism? And in a world saturated with violence at every scale, is nonviolence a genuine option?
 
Nonviolence has its own demands, its own discipline, its own internal logic and serious thinkers have disagreed sharply about what it requires and whether it's even coherent as a concept.
 
This isn't a conversation about current events or political positions. It's a philosophical peek into what nonviolence actually means, what it asks of us, and whether the ideas hold up under scrutiny.

Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center's Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts. Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. In the era of wooden boats, "chafing mats" were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat "accessory" and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Register for CRMM's Maritime Weaving Club to try your hand at these historic patterns!

The Warrenton Community Library is hosting author Jason A. Kilgore at "Library After Dark" on Saturday, March 14 at 4 p.m. Jason A. Kilgore is a multi-genre writer in speculative fiction, including horror, fantasy, and science fiction, as well as poetry, scientific publications, and essays. He has published five books so far through self-publishing and with GladEye Press, a Northwest small press based in Springfield, Oregon. Jason lives in Eugene, Oregon. When he isn’t writing and reading, he works as a scientist with a global biotech company and loves hiking and camping in the mountain wilderness areas and the Pacific coast. Explore the Brix Maritime Hall and This is Our Place, a recent collaboration with the Chinook Indian Nation, or shop the Museum Store when doors open at 5:30. Then join us for a presentation with US Navy Veteran, US Coast Guard Veteran, Merchant Mariner, and Thalassophile Jason “Boats” Linnett to dive into the maritime origins of many common phrases. Friends of Suomi Hall will hold a banquet and auction to raise funds to stabilize and restore the 142-year-old Suomi Hall so it can continue to be used as lodge and community event space. The banquet will start at 5 PM on Saturday, March 28, at the Loft at the Red Building on Basin Street in Astoria. The Bridgewater Bistro will cater the dinner and the public is welcome. In the era of wooden boats, "chafing mats" were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat "accessory" and many sailors who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Register for CRMM's Maritime Weaving Club to try your hand at these historic patterns!

Event Details

Director Katherine Lacaze is seeking five Female or Non Gender Conforming actors to play multiple roles in our May-June production. Actors should be comfortable playing both male and female characters, and must be of the ethnic background outlined in the character descriptions below.

Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the group’s availability, and will likely include evenings and weekends. Performances run May 29th - June 13th. Actors will receive a $100 stipend at the close of the production.

The Men’s Peer Education group at Watson College is dedicated to unpacking and exposing male privilege. These “sensitive guys” believe that through increased self-awareness they can end sexual violence on campus; but when a shocking rumor surfaces, the group is shaken to the core. Sensitive Guys features a cast of women and gender nonconforming actors, double-cast as male and female characters, who try to understand men who are trying to understand masculinity.

Our crew is looking at the mouth of the Columbia’s own beginnings – with Indigenous peoples before Oregon and Washington became states and the founding of Astoria. Join the education crew with a tactile exploration of the Fur Trade. Learn about Indigenous trade networks, impacts on the animal populations, and why the fur trade is strongly linked to Astoria’s roots. Included in museum admission.

Come check out the Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop at the Barbey Maritime Center. This shop hosts weekly carving club, bi-monthly weaving club in the winter, plus numerous adult education workshops. This old train depot will be open from 1:30-3:30 to explore and chat with our education crew.

Event Details

Director Katherine Lacaze is seeking five Female or Non Gender Conforming actors to play multiple roles in our May-June production. Actors should be comfortable playing both male and female characters, and must be of the ethnic background outlined in the character descriptions below.

Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the group’s availability, and will likely include evenings and weekends. Performances run May 29th - June 13th. Actors will receive a $100 stipend at the close of the production.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
The Men’s Peer Education group at Watson College is dedicated to unpacking and exposing male privilege. These “sensitive guys” believe that through increased self-awareness they can end sexual violence on campus; but when a shocking rumor surfaces, the group is shaken to the core. Sensitive Guys features a cast of women and gender nonconforming actors, double-cast as male and female characters, who try to understand men who are trying to understand masculinity.

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS:
Please arrive by 6:45pm to complete the audition paperwork. Headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required. Bring your calendar and/or a list of any scheduling conflicts between March 29th and June 13th.

OPTIONAL: Actors may prepare a 60-90 second dramatic monologue from this script or any other.

Plan to visit between 12:30 and 2:00 PM for Scrimshaw in the Ford Room with our Education Crew. See images of real scrimshaw, learn how sailors made them and why it is illegal today. The faux scrimshaw created will be made using soap, nails, ink, and a Q-Tip. Included with museum admission.
