The Trail’s End Art Association Gallery (TEAA) will open a new show in October featuring the photography of Richard Newman. There will be a reception for the artist on October 3rd, during the Gearhart Art Walk, 2-5 pm. This show will be open Fridays–Sundays, 11am–3 pm from October 2 – 31, 2026. Newman has always loved photographs from all over the world, and he captures both beauty in landscapes as well as the reality of life. He was a photojournalist in high school and college and then was the Assistant Photographer for the City of Cleveland (Ohio) and learned the fine art of photography and darkroom applications. "Photography is not a job for me, it is a passion for capturing memories.” Newman’s fascination with texture in nature and landscapes has won him numerous awards. Over the Last 10 years, at the Annual TEAA judged show, Newman has received the Best of Show Award, 1st place and other awards for his photography on aluminum. His photos of the Bridge of Sighs and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in black and white were sold to ABC television and used on the Criminal Minds television show. Come see his beautiful work at the Trail’s End Gallery.

Step into the layered story of Astoria, where river, sea, and hillside converge, on a guided walking tour through the Downtown Astoria Historic District. Offered weekly by the Lower Columbia Preservation Society, these tours explore the architectural heritage, working waterfront history, and civic ambitions that shaped Oregon’s oldest American settlement.

Tours are point-to-point, beginning at the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park and concluding at the Flavel House Museum, traversing approximately ten blocks over the course of 90 minutes. Along the way, participants encounter landmark commercial buildings, vernacular streetscapes, and stories of industry, immigration, and resilience that continue to define Astoria’s character.

Walking tours are offered Sundays, from Mother’s Day through mid-October, and are led by knowledgeable LCPS volunteer guides with deep ties to local history and preservation advocacy. Each tour emphasizes both architectural observation and the broader cultural context of the place inviting participants to see familiar streets with fresh eyes. The tour will finish with enough time to enjoy lunch at the Sunday Market in downtown Astoria, or you'll be in time to join the Liberty Theater tour starting at noon. 

Price: Pay as you can, with a suggested donation of $10/person.

The market features up to 150 vendors offering locally-made products that have been grown, gathered, created, or hand-crafted by the farmers, ranchers, producers, craftspeople and artists featured each week. With a bustling food court and a rotation of fun regional music, the Astoria Sunday Market is where locals and visitors alike gather each Sunday to shop, eat, connect, and celebrate community.

The 10k offers a scenic adventure on a fairly flat road with one STEEP incline to the peak of the bridge. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America.

Water Music Festival has brought the best in a variety of musical genres to the Long Beach Peninsula for 41 years – from classical, to jazz, to opera, and Broadway shows. This October, Festival attendees will experience the incredible talent of Latino/world-class artists Diego Figueiredo and Chuchito Valdes, each bringing a trio of amazing instrumentalists. Concertgoers will enjoy the exciting performance of each trio separately, and then all six musicians will come together for the final portion of the concert. AND TO ADD TO THIS EXCITEMENT, the Ilwaco High School mariachi band has been invited to join these professional musicians for the finale!
