Members were asked to create a monochromatic 15" x 45"  work of fiber art.  Working with only one hue from the color wheel palette and the option of adding a bit of complimentary color, the artists explored texture, material, and form.  The results are extraordinary!

Starting on Monday and ending on Sunday this Long Beach, Washington State vacation extravaganza boasts skies ablaze with color, high flying action and choreographed movement.

Washington's Kite Festival draws famous kite fliers from all around the world, and tens of thousands of awed spectators, many of which participate in the fun with their own kite flying adventures. Plan ahead and don’t miss out! We have multiple events and activities scheduled everyday.

Each day, youth will participant in at least 4 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) projects by CRMM Educators.
This year, we will explore how museums share the history of an area, its environment, and its people while learning about historic objects coming soon in our newest building. The week will end with a mini exhibit opening at the Barbey Maritime Center featuring the students' work on display with refreshments provided.

Projects will be a mixture of media, and instructors will be on hand to assist your youth in creation. There will be movement and brain breaks throughout each day indoors and outdoors, so please dress/pack accordingly. All abilities welcome.

Event Details

Chinook Port Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to recreation and facility enhancement for the Port of Chinook through community support. We have been in operation since 2017 and have held annual fundraisers generating over $62,000 in support for the Port of Chinook facility upgrades. To date our funds assisted in the new payment kiosk located in front of the port’s office, lumber for replacing docks, emergency equipment repairs and most recently the graveling and grading of the parking areas and the rebuilding of the launch dock.
 
This year we are again hosting a community event called “The Columbia River Salmon Derby” at the Historic Chinook School in Chinook Washington.  Scheduled for August 21 & 22, 2026, we have secured local businesses to cater the event. 
 
The event on the school’s grounds will host local musicians and a DJ, beer, wine & cocktails as well as a Salmon Derby, Saturday, August 22nd.  Three categories of prizes; Largest Chinook ($1000), Largest Silver ($500), and a prize for the Largest Fish caught by a child 16 and under, and three additional mystery fish weights will be awarded prizes.  We will also host a raffle/silent auction. Registration and pre-party event will be held Friday, Aug 21st.

We'll screen three short films, including:

  • "Columbia River Bar Pilots" which follows bar pilots as they encounter crashing surf, unpredictable currents and fierce winds of the infamous Columbia River Bar—a gauntlet that has killed nearly 2,000 men and sunk 700 vessels since record-keeping began.
  • "Underwater Robots" which follows Warrenton students as they design and build underwater robots to accomplish real-world marine exploration and mapping tasks
  • "Willapa Bay Sharks" where we dive into the world of Willapa Bay's sharks with a short film screening from OPB's "Oregon Field Guide” which explores why the migratory broadnose sevengill shark returns to the region every spring.

Conversations and Q&As with students, science experts, and members of OPB's science and environment team will follow the films.

To date our funds assisted in the new payment kiosk located in front of the port’s office, lumber for replacing docks, emergency equipment repairs and most recently the graveling and grading of the parking areas and the rebuilding of the launch dock.
 
This year we are again hosting a community event called “The Columbia River Salmon Derby” at the Historic Chinook School in Chinook Washington.  Scheduled for August 21 & 22, 2026, we have secured local businesses to cater the event. 
 
The event on the school’s grounds will host local musicians and a DJ, beer, wine & cocktails as well as a Salmon Derby, Saturday, August 22nd.  Three categories of prizes; Largest Chinook ($1000), Largest Silver ($500), and a prize for the Largest Fish caught by a child 16 and under, and three additional mystery fish weights will be awarded prizes.  We will also host a raffle/silent auction. Registration and pre-party event will be held Friday, Aug 21st.

We'll screen three short films, including:

  • "Columbia River Bar Pilots" which follows bar pilots as they encounter crashing surf, unpredictable currents and fierce winds of the infamous Columbia River Bar—a gauntlet that has killed nearly 2,000 men and sunk 700 vessels since record-keeping began.
  • "Underwater Robots" which follows Warrenton students as they design and build underwater robots to accomplish real-world marine exploration and mapping tasks
  • "Willapa Bay Sharks" where we dive into the world of Willapa Bay's sharks with a short film screening from OPB's "Oregon Field Guide” which explores why the migratory broadnose sevengill shark returns to the region every spring.

Conversations and Q&As with students, science experts, and members of OPB's science and environment team will follow the films.

The Washington State International Kite Festival (WSIKF) is a week-long kite celebration and competition held annually during the third full week of August. Step into the layered story of Astoria, where river, sea, and hillside converge, on a guided walking tour through the Downtown Astoria Historic District. Offered weekly by the Lower Columbia Preservation Society, these tours explore the architectural heritage, working waterfront history, and civic ambitions that shaped Oregon’s oldest American settlement.

Tours are point-to-point, beginning at the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park and concluding at the Flavel House Museum, traversing approximately ten blocks over the course of 90 minutes. Along the way, participants encounter landmark commercial buildings, vernacular streetscapes, and stories of industry, immigration, and resilience that continue to define Astoria’s character.

Walking tours are offered Sundays, from Mother’s Day through mid-October, and are led by knowledgeable LCPS volunteer guides with deep ties to local history and preservation advocacy. Each tour emphasizes both architectural observation and the broader cultural context of the place inviting participants to see familiar streets with fresh eyes. The tour will finish with enough time to enjoy lunch at the Sunday Market in downtown Astoria, or you'll be in time to join the Liberty Theater tour starting at noon.

INFORMATION:  This will be a wonderful experience at Fort Clatsop!  We
will be met by a ranger at 11:15am who will escort us to the
Presentation Area and provide information along the way.  We will
attend the 11:30 Ranger Presentation with multiple possible topics
(Birds of Discovery, How Elk helped the Corps, Flora of the Fort,
Muskets and other Survival Tools, Woodworking, Mapping the Louisiana
Purchase, etc.). Our group will then have a picnic lunch (bring your
own lunch) and walk through the Visitor Center.  We will be met by the
Ranger at 1pm who will give us a Guided Tour of Fort Clatsop.
Finally, we will attend the Musket Firing at 1:30.  This can only
occur if the specialist is present and there is no fire warning.  If
this does happen we will then watch the "Clatsop Winter Story".  If
this cannot happen, then we will attend the film, "Confluence of Time
and Courage" at 1:25 and the film, "Clatsop Winter Story" at 2:00.

The Providence Hood and Portland To Coast Relay is the most popular and largest running and walking relay race in the world, annually drawing participants from over 40 countries and all 50 states. Known as the Mother of All Relays, the event takes 8 to 12 member relay teams 199 miles or 130 miles (from Portland) from the iconic top of Mount Hood to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The event has sold-out for 30 straight years and on lottery opening day for 23 consecutive years!

The final six legs of this relay event wind through rural Clatsop County and the finish line is in Seaside.
Astoria and Warrenton sees heavy impacts to crowds and traffic in our communities during this event weekend. So although the event isn't itself in our towns, we have listed this event to help set expectations for a busy weekend in our region.

The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco, WA, will be hosting Dog Days of Summer: Pets of the Peninsula, a special exhibition that explores the strong bonds between animals and the human residents of the North Beach Peninsula over time. Not only our beloved pets, but it’s also about the lives of all our special animal neighbors, how they help and influence people, and how we help and influence them in return. Dog Days of Summer will be on view at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum from August 8th through October 31st, 2026. Members were asked to create a monochromatic 15" x 45"  work of fiber art.  Working with only one hue from the color wheel palette and the option of adding a bit of complimentary color, the artists explored texture, material, and form.  The results are extraordinary!

Event Details

The Providence Hood and Portland To Coast Relay is the most popular and largest running and walking relay race in the world, annually drawing participants from over 40 countries and all 50 states. Known as the Mother of All Relays, the event takes 8 to 12 member relay teams 199 miles or 130 miles (from Portland) from the iconic top of Mount Hood to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The event has sold-out for 30 straight years and on lottery opening day for 23 consecutive years!

The final six legs of this relay event wind through rural Clatsop County and the finish line is in Seaside.
Astoria and Warrenton sees heavy impacts to crowds and traffic in our communities during this event weekend. So although the event isn't itself in our towns, we have listed this event to help set expectations for a busy weekend in our region.

A multi-instrumentalist, DIY-inclined producer who has issued the bulk of her solo work under the pseudonym Grouper, Harris secured more or less permanent critical-darling status with her 2008 breakthrough album, "Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill." Grouper’s music lends itself to precisely the kind of introverted presentation that Harris has been able to sustain since making her full-length CD-R debut in 2005. Though keyboards, piano, guitar and Harris’s own voice have always been central to her work, her trademark has been to engulf those sounds so the overall atmosphere — not so much the instrumentation — occupies the spotlight. On any given Grouper release, the clarity of the individual parts tends to get washed out in a thick blanket of whatever sonic element is most prominent in the mix, be it volume saturation, reverb, or other effects.

Step into the layered story of Astoria, where river, sea, and hillside converge, on a guided walking tour through the Downtown Astoria Historic District. Offered weekly by the Lower Columbia Preservation Society, these tours explore the architectural heritage, working waterfront history, and civic ambitions that shaped Oregon’s oldest American settlement.

Tours are point-to-point, beginning at the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park and concluding at the Flavel House Museum, traversing approximately ten blocks over the course of 90 minutes. Along the way, participants encounter landmark commercial buildings, vernacular streetscapes, and stories of industry, immigration, and resilience that continue to define Astoria’s character.

Walking tours are offered Sundays, from Mother’s Day through mid-October, and are led by knowledgeable LCPS volunteer guides with deep ties to local history and preservation advocacy. Each tour emphasizes both architectural observation and the broader cultural context of the place inviting participants to see familiar streets with fresh eyes. The tour will finish with enough time to enjoy lunch at the Sunday Market in downtown Astoria, or you'll be in time to join the Liberty Theater tour starting at noon.

Debra Heesch Presents Reggae Legend CLINTON FEARON Solo Acoustic on August 30th at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts in Astoria, Oregon. All Ages are Welcome. This will be Clinton's first time performing in Astoria! CLINTON FEARON is a composer, songwriter, singer, and player of instruments since his early teens, and a professional since the age of 19. He was born in Jamaica and became the bassist, vocalist, and lyricist for the mythic Gladiators, as well as a session musician for Coxsonne Dodd in Studio One and Lee 'Scratch' Perry's at Black Ark, two of the main producers on the island at this time. He also composed some everlasting bass lines for well-known artists like Yabby You, Jimmy Riley, Max Romeo, Junior Byles, and many others. After leaving Jamaica in 1987, Clinton Fearon started a new career in Seattle. With other musicians of the Gladiators, he decided to stay in the US and founded The Defenders. The band built a nice following in the Northwest. After five years, the band split, and Clinton Fearon formed the Boogie Brown Band with local musicians in 1993. Clinton recorded eight albums with Boogie Brown Band and two albums in a solo acoustic. Each song of Clinton Fearon is a strong message coming from the heart of a man who dedicates his life to help a better world come. With chiselled music and poetic lyrics, he opens reggae to a wider audience who simply love his beautiful songs. "My music is roots reggae from the island of Jamaica. I grew up deep in the hills, up in St. Catherine, surrounded by nature, beauty, and hard work. Even as a child, I knew I wanted to be a musician and began my career singing in church and at school, and eventually built my own guitar! As a teenager, my journeys took me to Kingston, where I met many musicians and began writing and recording music. The Skatalites, Motown artists, and Jamaican musicians who came before me all influenced my music. I write from my heart. The world is full of inspirations... nature, people, politics, love. I write about them all. My music is good for the soul - always with a message of hope and betterment for tomorrow. It's good for dancing, good for listening, and I think it's good for all." - Clinton Fearon
