Step into the layered story of Astoria, where river, sea, and hillside converge, on a guided walking tour through the Downtown Astoria Historic District. Offered weekly by the Lower Columbia Preservation Society, these tours explore the architectural heritage, working waterfront history, and civic ambitions that shaped Oregon’s oldest American settlement.

Tours are point-to-point, beginning at the Astoria Nordic Heritage Park and concluding at the Flavel House Museum, traversing approximately ten blocks over the course of 90 minutes. Along the way, participants encounter landmark commercial buildings, vernacular streetscapes, and stories of industry, immigration, and resilience that continue to define Astoria’s character.

Walking tours are offered Sundays, from Mother’s Day through mid-October, and are led by knowledgeable LCPS volunteer guides with deep ties to local history and preservation advocacy. Each tour emphasizes both architectural observation and the broader cultural context of the place inviting participants to see familiar streets with fresh eyes. The tour will finish with enough time to enjoy lunch at the Sunday Market in downtown Astoria, or you'll be in time to join the Liberty Theater tour starting at noon. 

Price: Pay as you can, with a suggested donation of $10/person.

-Limited bathroom availability- the tour guide will inform you where the bathrooms are
-Terrain can be uneven and the tour will be walking uphill for about two blocks. Wheelchair accessibility is limited.

The Astoria Sunday Market, at the heart of Astoria?s Downtown, combines local arts & crafts, fresh produce & protein, unique prepared foods, music and more in a lively downtown street market atmosphere.

The market features up to 150 vendors offering locally-made products that have been grown, gathered, created, or hand-crafted by the farmers, ranchers, producers, craftspeople and artists featured each week. With a bustling food court and a rotation of fun regional music, the Astoria Sunday Market is where locals and visitors alike gather each Sunday to shop, eat, connect, and celebrate community.

In this panel discussion, join CRMM Director of External Engagement Caroline Wuebben, Alec Holser (Principal – Opsis Engineering), Paulina Wilkowski (Senior Associate/Architect – Opsis Engineering), and Ryan Sullivan and Gwen Sparks Sullivan (Sparks + Sullivan) as they detail how the museum’s vision for storytelling has resulted in a transformed campus with a cohesive and connected visitor experience. Included with museum admission, Ford Room seats 50 people.

Traditional rug hooking has a rich history of using simple materials to create beautiful rugs and hangings. Apply this tradition to our maritime heritage twice a month in a casual, supportive setting. An initial introductory kit will be available for purchase $40 for incoming rug hookers looking to explore the craft. Each participant should bring their own tools and materials for other projects. Please note that Rug Hooking Club capacity is limited to 12 people max.

Since 2016, the Barbey Maritime Center's Sam Johnson Woodworking Shop has hosted a casual, weekly meeting of carving enthusiasts.  Carvers work on current projects, as well as trade tips, techniques and design ideas.  Each participant should bring their own tools and materials. The carving group is a great way to maintain skills and develop new ones. Please note that Carving Club capacity is limited to 12 carvers max.

Typically, Most dress as Helen, with a colorful caftan or MuMu, chunky jewelry, glasses, and a curly redhead wig or just put a flower in your hair! Bearded Helens are extra fun, or you are welcome to dress up as her husband, Stanley Roper, or Mr. Furley (Don Knotts) or even a Jack Tripper, Janet Woods or Chrissy Snow! Can't forget their friend Larry! and come to the peninsula and join other Helens as you choose your own romp of things you want to do! Come an knock on our door and meet us down at the Regal Beagle for smiles and a good time!

In this two day workshop you will learn how to make impressions come to life using plant materials and sunlight. With the help of spices, herbs, vinegars and water, the plants chemically combine their individual chemistry with the chemistry of photographic paper resulting in an unpredictable and lovely lumen photograph. Julie is a cross-disciplinary artist specializing in lens-based mediums, seamlessly blending collage, lumen, photo-gravure, and intaglio printing. You can see her work at Lightbox Photographic Gallery. This weekend class will be a great destination using the breathtaking views from Pier 11 Studio for continued inspiration. Scott Losse is a PNW comedy treasure and stand-up comedian from Seattle. He's also the "I live in the Pacific Northwest" guy from Instagram, which has garnered him 200,000 happy followers. He's married and has two chihuahuas. Scott has performed at Portland's Bridgetown Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, Sketchfest Seattle, Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, Treefort Music Fest, and lots of places that aren't festivals. He's appeared locally on King 5's "Evening Magazine" and has a Dry Bar special called "Okay" that has tons of views on the Internet. Scott's the adorable skateboard kid who never grew up. . . he just got older. And we know you're going to love him!

Come re-live the early days of Hollywood and your historic Liberty Theatre! The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra will accompany three classic silent-film comedies, with their original 1910s-1920s musical scores and sound effects. The films star two of the most famous “Clown Princes” of that era – Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. You’ll love their silver screen antics and revel in Hollywood’s past.
